CONDUCTOR

Our Concert Band Conductor for 2023 is Derek Barg.

Derek Barg brings 30 years of experience in instrumental music education to FPS, with expertise conducting concert bands, jazz band and private percussion tuition.

He has worked in many public and private schools across the northern Sydney region and beyond, including Cranbrook, Sydney Boys High School, Killarney Heights High School, Normanhurst Boys High School and over 15 different primary schools.

Derek’s experience as a performer is diverse, ranging across genres from orchestra through to rock bands and jazz ensembles. Derek is also a composer of wide-ranging styles of music and a professional audio engineer. He brings these skills together in pursuing his interest in developing processes to facilitate optimal learning for musicians, using professional audio recording as a tool for reflection and motivation for musicians.

CONCERT BAND PARENT CO-ORDINATOR

We need one parent to volunteer as the Concert Band Parent Co-ordinator. This parent will:

  • Liaise with the conductor, committee and teachers.

  • Communicate with parents about upcoming events and general information as well as organise a roster for parent/carer helpers during rehearsals.

This is not an intensive role and the amount of work is mainly focussed around setting up a roster at the beginning of each term. In addition, your help may be required when organising performances throughout the year.
